During an informal gathering with John, someone spoke to him about having great difficulty with losing sight of familiarity, and an almost desperate need to look for something to experience in this existence.  John responded with words about there being no existence and no experience involved in ‘knowing’:

“All of existence can come or go, but you don’t. You’re not subject to that. You are more there than existence…What exists is everything that is yours.”  (From Podcast 202 on John’s website.)

“Even if you bring knowing into existence, it still has no existence in it.”

“I am nothing, just a mirror in the palm of your hand,
reflecting your kindness, your sadness, your anger.
If you were a blade of grass or a tiny flower
I will pitch my tent in your shadow.
Only your presence revives my withered heart.
You are the candle that lights the whole world
and I am an empty vessel for your light.”  – Rumi
